What sets NCFG above all the rest?

Our Mission Statement

Our Guiding Philosophy and Approach
Our guiding philosophy is that we are teachers first and guides second.  While some think being a guide is all about putting clients on as many fish as possible, and while that is slightly correct, the main purpose of being a guide and booking a trip with one is for “YOU” to become a better and a more knowledgeable angler.  Here at NCFG we are just that, teachers first and guides second.  Our mission as a guide, first and foremost, is to teach you along the way and turn you into a more advanced angler.  Hooking, fighting and landing fish is just a bonus as you become a more proficient angler.  So, for us as your trusty Northern California fishing guide, our success and our pride of being a guide, is not your success when you are fishing with us, but when you are fishing on your own DYI fishing adventures.  That’s the true success of a great guide.  We love to hear your stories weeks, months, even years down the road and that your trip with us had an ever-lasting impression.  Telling us that due to those trips we had together you have now become a fish slaying machine or an overall more efficient Spey Caster due to our instruction on the water.  After all is said and done, it’s about “YOU” & “YOUR” journey in this passionate sport we call Fly Fishing.

Our Professional Guiding Approach

With our crazy and every changing weather in Northern California our fishing trips happen in all types of weather, fishing and river conditions, like; cold-freezing temperatures but no frost-bite, rain-sometimes heavy but not tsunamis, hot temps but not frying eggs hot, some wind but not tornados, slower than normal fishing conditions, some color to our rivers but not blown out or high/low water flow conditions.
However, our guiding principle is this;
If we won’t personally fish in the current conditions, we will not guide in it.
While this decision is typically decided by your guide, here at NCFG we feel that getting you involved in making this decision on “YOUR” trip is the only way to go. We will make this decision together.

NCFG and our guides practice catch & release on all boats.  We respect the sport of fishing and our co-workers (the fish) and wish to give all anglers the opportunity to experience the gratification we strive to give each of our clients day in and day out.  In addition, NCFG and our guides will be practicing the keepemwet style of handling our wild trout & wild steelhead.  What this means, first and foremost, our fish will be handled with the utmost care and always greeted with wet nets & wet hands, NO GLOVES.  Also, if clients would like to take pictures during the day with their prize catch, we will do so by entering the water where our partners in crime live, embracing their habitat and keepemwet while taking a few quick pics.  We are sorry for this inconvenience, however, the keepemwet philosophy will better protect our fish for future generations of not only fish but also future anglers.  After all is said and done, it’s about how we leave our footprint on our fisheries.  This is one way we can do our part.
